Please join us in welcoming Adrian Morejon, Talea’s Interim Executive Director! Adrian assumed the new role in December 2021 and has been a member of the Talea Ensemble as a performer since 2011. Adrian is an accomplished bassoonist and administrator and brings his depth of experiences from both on and beyond the stage to his leadership role at Talea.

As a soloist, Morejon has appeared throughout the US and Europe with the Talea Ensemble, IRIS Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), and the Miami Symphony. He has appeared with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Boston Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Northwest, the Portland Chamber Music Festival, Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival and has performed with several ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

Since early in his career, Morejon has been a part of and initiated various small-scale chamber groups, including a wind quintet (Sospiro Winds) he started while a student at Yale, a trio for clarinet, bassoon, and harp (The Gene Project), and a bassoon duo with Rebekah Heller (Dark & Stormy), among others. In his experience forming and performing in these groups, he was drawn to better understand the administrative side of the performing arts. “Aside from being a bassoonist, I have always had curiosity about how the other side of things [the administrative side] works,” he explained.

In his role at Talea, Morejon wishes to further expand Talea’s reach amongst both audiences and artists, and to break down barriers that have traditionally been associated with our field. With this move to expand Talea’s mission and reach, he notes that he wishes to build more collaborative connections and performance opportunities outside of the US and Europe.

One program that Adrian mentioned was Talea’s Emerging Composer Commissioning Program, which brought Talea in touch with emerging composers from different parts of the world. Under his leadership, Talea will continue to expand on opportunities to engage early career composers through commissioning, recording, performance, and more.

Morejon sums up his approach as “putting the effort to go to people who can’t make it to us.” All these gestures are a realization of Morejon’s ethos: involving everyone-–a value he holds dearly in his hope of widening Talea’s mission.
