Laura Bowler’s new multimedia chamber work, for live soprano and live streamed ensemble from the United States explores issues including climate change and social distance.
“Distance” is a groundbreaking multimedia chamber work centered around flight, distance, and how they both connect to our psychological distancing from our environment and how that affects people’s inability to act on climate change.
Soprano Juliet Fraser will be joined by Talea Ensemble for the world premiere performance in Aberdeen, Scotland. While Juliet will be performing live in the performance space, Talea Ensemble will be live streamed directly from New York.
The piece includes text by Timothy Ingold, British anthropologist and Chair of Social Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen, and includes verbatim text from interviews with the performers about their experiences of flight travel.
