The most exciting time for a piece of music is at the beginning. It’s a dangerous time- will it sink or swim? But all pieces were there once, at the cutting edge, begging for ambitious performers, hoping for an eager audience, needing a chance to be heard.

The birth of a piece makes its musicians live on the edge: needing to negotiate new technical demands and forge through new artistic challenges, drawing on their imagination in a fresh way, to make the best case for the piece it possibly can. And of course it causes the audience to listen on the edge: hearing new sounds and gestures, not knowing what to expect or what’s coming next.

It’s the sense of excitement and danger at the edge that the Talea Ensemble embraces everyday. Why? Because we believe it’s important! New works don’t speak for themselves. The Talea Ensemble asks for your financial support to help us continue to bring new music to new audiences.
